Christopher Barnes

Christopher Barnes turned scrappy character Tanner Boyle into an iconic and much-loved character. While Christopher loved his 20+ years of acting in films, television movies, pilots and commercials he did not love the attending fame and public attention; so as soon as he was able, he moved behind the camera and has spent the last 30 years working as a journeyman director and producer. Using that same scrappy energy and tenacity he has helped develop, produce and direct series and specials for broadcast, cable and streaming outlets (ABC, FOX, Discovery, History, Bravo, Nat. Geo., Travel Channel, Animal Planet, MTV, TLC, etc.).

After many years of actively avoiding any public life, Christopher is making his first public appearance in 50 years here at the 2026 TCM Film Festival to join his treasured friends and castmates to celebrate this generationally beloved film.

Christopher especially wants to honor the creative team of Director Michael Richie, Producer Stanley Jaffee, Writer Bill Lancaster, Production Designer Polly Platt and Cinematographer John Alonzo whose estimable talents created the film we celebrate.

Christopher and Scott Firestone have remained lifelong friends and professional collaborators and are currently producing and directing a feature documentary on the legacy and impact of THE BAD NEWS BEARS on filmmaking, sports and culture.
