She was the first to win back-to-back “Best Actress” awards at the Cannes Film Festival, for her performances in Shy People (1987) and A WORLD APART (1988). Her talents have won her recognition in roles such as “Mary Magdalene” in The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) for Martin Scorsese, a BAFTA nomination for her portrayal of “Erica Sayers/The Queen” in Black Swan (2010) and her performance as “Madame Serena” in The Portrait of a Lady (1996), for Jane Campion, which earned her Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations.
