Méliès 3D Discoveries

Everyone remembers the iconic image of George Méliès’ Trip to the Moon (1902), with a rocket in the eye of the moon. Méliès, the inventor of trick films (with special effects), color in cinema and even sound, destroyed the negatives of all his films in 1923. This program, MÉLIÈS IN 3D DISCOVERIES: THE AMERICAN NEGATIVES, showcases the unlikely discovery of surviving Méliès negatives at the Library of Congress allows today to screen for the first time of rare or lost Méliès films … and a few surprises, as always with Serge Bromberg. After a smashing world premiere in Telluride, this unique presentation returns to TCM Classic Film Festival after 4 years of absence, including the premiere of stereoscopic 3D presentations of early Méliès masterpieces, shot in 1908, and more.
