It Came From Outer Space

In the 1950s, director Jack Arnold had a run of work in the science fiction genre comparable to Val Lewton’s work in horror at RKO in the 1940s. In Arnold’s best work, such as Creature From the Black Lagoon (1954) and The Space Children (1958), the monsters or aliens may actually be the good guys. His signature film IT CAME FROM OUTER SPACE is adapted from a Ray Bradbury short story (though the screenplay was reportedly actually mostly written by Bradbury himself), and features Richard Carlson as an amateur astronomer who sees an alien spaceship crash-land in the Arizona desert, to the disbelief of others. Then, the local townspeople start acting strangely… as if they were not who they seem to be. Sometimes the desert sun plays tricks with your eyes. Starring former TCM guest the late, great Barbara Rush, the film is presented in its original widescreen, stereo, and in 3D. Be sure to duck when the rocks fly out from the screen!
