Doris Berger
Dr. Doris Berger is a curator and author. She was the Vice President of Curatorial Affairs and Exhibitions Curator at the Academy Museum for the past 10 years. Among her exhibitions are Cyberpunk: Envisioning Possible Futures (2024), Backdrop: An Invisible Art (2021), and the award-winning show Regeneration: Black Cinema, 1898–1971 (2022) that she co-curated with Rhea L. Combs (2022). Berger was previously a Curator at the Skirball Cultural Center, where she curated most notably the exhibition Light & Noir: Exiles and Emigres in Hollywood, 1933-1950 (2014), one of the reasons why she is here today. Next to exhibition catalogues, she publishes texts and books on art and film, gender, and exile studies, most notably her book on biopics “Projected Art History: Biopics, Celebrity Culture, and the Popularizing of American Art (Bloomsbury, 2014).
