Egyptian Theatre6712 Hollywood Blvd.
Hollywood, CA 90028
The site of the first “Hollywood” premiere, the venue originally known as “Grauman’s Egyptian Theatre” opened with the Douglas Fairbanks epic adaptation of Robin Hood in 1922. Its architecture was inspired by the mania for Egypt following the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb. A long running home for many “road-show” presentations of the 1950s and 1960s, including the original theatrical releases of South Pacific (1958), Ben-Hur (1959) and My Fair Lady (1964), the Egyptian Theatre is now the home of the American Cinematheque.
