Se7en

Although it’s not science fiction, SE7EN presents a dystopian view of the modern city. It’s a dark, rain-soaked place where rot and corruption thrive, the natural breeding ground for a serial killer punishing people representing the Seven Deadly Sins. Director David Fincher’s image of hell is even more vivid in this new restoration. Morgan Freeman stars as a veteran homicide detective who’s retiring in a week. Over his objections, he’s assigned to investigate the serial killings alongside a new partner, brash young Brad Pitt.  The film was a breakthrough for Pitt, helping him move into grittier roles after years of romantic films. It also helped establish music video director Fincher as a major talent, paving the way for future favorites like Fight Club (1999) and The Social Network (2010).
