The Model and the Marriage Broker (1951)

Writer-producer Charles Brackett had been so impressed after working with Thelma Ritter on The Mating Season (1951), he decided to write another vehicle for her. Although she had to take third billing to conventional romantic leads Jeanne Crain and Scott Brady, Ritter was really the whole show in THE MODEL AND THE MARRIAGE BROKER. Crain co-stars as the first part of the title, a model stuck in a dead-end romance with a married man. She and matchmaker Ritter meet cute, and that’s all it takes for the older woman to decide to set her up with a more suitable mate (Brady). To showcase her properly, Brackett got George Cukor, an expert at comedy and directing leading ladies, for what proved to be a charming romantic comedy.
