Sabrina (1954)
Seventy years ago, Audrey Hepburn cemented her hold on stardom by following her Oscar-winning performance in Roman Holiday (1953) with another Cinderella story. She stars as Sabrina Fairchild, daughter of the chauffeur to a wealthy Long Island family. She has a hopeless crush on the family’s debonair younger son (William Holden), who barely notices her until she goes off to cooking school in Paris and comes back a chic, sophisticated beauty. Hepburn experienced a real-life Parisian transformation when she discovered Hubert de Givenchy, who would become her signature designer for over a decade. Although uncredited, he created the black cocktail gown that helped win the film an Oscar for Best Costumes. Humphrey Bogart co-stars as Holden’s older brother, who develops his own interest in Hepburn.
