Cliff “Method Man” Smith
Award-winning actor, producer, musician, and entrepreneur Cliff “Method Man” Smith has been forging an extraordinary and unparalleled path across all mediums since he first entered the scene 30 years ago.
Smith starred as ‘Attorney Davis MacLean’ opposite Mary J. Blige in all four seasons of the worldwide hit STARZ series Power Book II: Ghost. The show follows the ongoing journey of some of Power’s most controversial characters, in addition to introducing new fan favorites. He won four consecutive NAACP Image Awards in the category of “Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series” for his performance each season.
He is currently in production on Amazon MGM Studios’ rom-com Relationship Goals opposite Kelly Rowland. The film is based on Michael Todd’s book Relationship Goals: How to Win at Dating, Marriage, and Sex that spent 13 straight weeks on the New York Times bestsellers list and debuted at No. 1 on Amazon. Later this year, Smith can be seen in Maude Apatow’s directorial debut Poetic License. In May 2025, he will appear as a guest star in Season 2 of Peacock’s Emmy Award-winning original series Poker Face, as well as in Lionsgate’s action thriller, Shadow Force, alongside Kerry Washington and Da’Vine Joy Randolph.
He can currently be seen in Carnegie Hill Entertainment’s feature Bad Shabbos opposite Kyra Sedgwick that premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival and is currently in theaters. He was recently seen in Paramount+’s feature film On the Come Up, which is based on a novel written by New York Times bestselling author Angie Thomas. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and was released in September 2022. Method received a 2023 NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for this role. Smith made his film debut in One Eight Seven and Belly, and his additional film credits include Concrete Cowboy, Peppermint, Last Looks, Keanu, Trainwreck, Red Tails, The Wackness, The Sitter, The Cobbler, and the award-winning drama Garden State, amongst many others.
Smith was the narrator for the ESPN 30 for 30 documentary The New York Sack Exchange, which aired in December 2024, and DC Comics’ Milestone Generations, streaming on MAX, which chronicles the relaunch of Milestone Comics and Milestone Media’s mission to address not only the lack of superheroes of color in comics, but also the lack of storytellers of color creating the content. He also lends his vocal talents to Disney Channel’s animated series, Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, which follows the adventures of Lunella Lafayette (aka Moon Girl) who is Marvel’s first Black teenage superhero and one of the most intelligent people in the Marvel universe. He has been narrator for NFL Film’s Champion Chase series since 2019. He recently narrated Telepictures limited documentary series How Music Got Free to air on Paramount + in June 2024.
On the small screen, Smith co-hosted the 2017-2019 TBS celebrity battle rap show Drop the Mic with Hailey Bieber and has had several recurring roles including ‘Tug Daniels’ on the acclaimed HBO prison series OZ, Godfather of Harlem season 2, The Last O.G., Blue Bloods, The Wire, The Deuce, Master of the Universe: Revelation as ‘Clamp Champ,’ and many more.
In addition to film and television, Smith has conquered the world of podcasts, starring as ‘Ben Urich’ in Marvel and Stitchers’ 2019 scripted podcast series Marvels, a 10-episode series based on Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross’ landmark 1994 comic, and Marvel/Method, the comic book weekly podcast with Marvel Media.
Smith and his producing partner Shauna Garr launched their company, Six AM, to produce content with diverse talent and untold points of view. The company has produced for Fox, Marvel, HBO Max, Universal, Lionsgate Home Ent, Hulu, MTV, ESPN, and more.
Smith was the first member of the Wu-Tang Clan to release a solo album, signing with Def Jam Records and releasing his solo debut TICAL in 1994. The album was critically acclaimed, entering the US charts at #4 and eventually selling in excess of one million copies. In 1997, the Wu-Tang Clan released their Grammy- nominated multiplatinum double CD, WU-TANG FOREVER. His second solo album was TICAL 2000: Judgement Day (1998) and earned Platinum and Gold certifications in the US and Canada. Additional solo albums followed TICAL O: The Prequel (2004), 4:21: The Day After (2007), and METH LAB SEASON 2: The Lithium (2019), a follow-up to his 2015 project, The Meth Lab.
He has also been part of several notable industry events including presenting at the 49th International Emmy Awards, presenting at this year’s NAACP Image Awards Creative Honors, presenting at Critic’s Choice Association’s Celebration of Black Cinema & Television in 2021, and gracing Essence Magazine’s February 2022 cover and Men’s Health cover September 2023. Smith received the “Vanguard Award” at the 2025 Lexus Uptown Hollywood Honors.
