Nick Davis
Nick Davis is a filmmaker and writer. His most recent film was Once Upon a Time in Queens, for ESPN’s 30 for 30 series, and he is currently finishing a documentary about the legendary 1972 Toronto production of Godspell starring Martin Short, Gilda Radner, Eugene Levy, and Andrea Martin, with Victor Garber as Jesus, and Paul Shaffer the musical director – a production that ignited the comedy revolution of the past fifty years. Nick executive produced The Comeback: 2004 Boston Red Sox for Netflix and produced and directed Ted Williams: “The Greatest Hitter Who Ever Lived“ for PBS’ American Masters. His book about his grandfather and great-uncle, Competing With Idiots: Herman and Joe Mankiewicz, a Dual Portrait, was shortlisted for the LA Times book prize as biography of the year in 2021.
He and Jane Mendelsohn recently formed Series of Dreams, a production company whose first films are the Toronto Godspell documentary and This Ordinary Thing, currently in post-production, a film about non-Jews who helped Jews during the Holocaust, featuring the voices of Helen Mirren, Jeremy Irons, Stephen Fry, Carrie Coon, Bill Camp, and Ellen Burstyn. At Harvard, Nick was one of the founding members of On Thin Ice, an improv group that has stayed alive since 1984. Nick lives in NYC with Jane, their two daughters, and two dogs.
