Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs

Lawrence was born in New York City on September 4, 1953. Larry starred on the ABC-TV hit comedy series Welcome Back, Kotter and gained critical acclaim for his magnetic tour-de-force portrayal as Joe Jackson in ABC-TV’s highly rated miniseries The Jacksons: An American Dream (1992). His numerous films include starring roles in Claudine (1974), Cooley High (1975), Youngblood (1978), and L.A. Heat (1989). His multi-TV credits include The Comedy Company, Roots, Fame, Hill Street Blues, The Wayans Bros., Family Time, Let’s Stay Together, Diagnosis: Murder, Tracey Takes On, Moesha, Martin, The Parent ‘Hood, The Jamie Foxx Show, and as a special guest star on The Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven, the CW’s Gilmore Girls, and Girlfriends.

A three-time nominee, Larry won the Best Actor NAACP Image Award for Richard Wesley’s The Mighty Gents, two TV Land Icon Awards, two Long Island Film Festival Best Actor Awards for the feature short, Don’t Give Me the Finger (2005), and a 2021 Daytime Emmy Best Lead Actor nomination for A House Divided. He’s written the feature films L.A. Heat (1989), L.A. Vice (1989), Chance (1990), Angels of the City (1989), Lucky Valentine, Skateboards!, Thieves!, Torrid Daydreamer, Suza, Kwanzaa Day, Boot Camp, The Storyteller, Yo’ Mummy!, Torture School!, In God We Trust, Protect & Serve!, A Long Road Home Again, Assault & Battery!, and American Rebel.

Larry made his directorial debut with Angels of the City (1989), associate produced L.A. Heat (1989), directed TNT’S popular cop drama, L.A. Heat: The Series and the documentary Fathers: Distress in America. He also starred in in Hallmark Hall of Fame’s Tidalwave: No Escape, the national tour of hit gospel musicals, Mr. Right Now!, His Woman, His Wife, and off-Broadway’s Waiting’ 2 End Hell. Currently, he is the director, writer, and star of the festival short film, Me & Bobby McGee; the lead actor in the indie mystery feature film, 30 Miles; starring as the Male Nurse from Hell in the Warner Bros. horror feature, Sublime; lead actor in the indie feature film, Nocturnal Agony; The Asylum’s Airplane vs. Volcano; the upcoming features Dead Man Rising, The Christmas Gift, A Chance in the World, Rob Zombie’s horror fest 31; Shooting Heroin; Escape from Death Block 13; Jasper; Bloodline; and currently as lead actor/co-producer/director on ALLBLK- TV’s hit family TV drama A House Divided. ‘Nuff said!
