VICTORIA MATURE

Victoria Mature didn’t know her famous father during his “hunky” days of Hollywood stardom. Born late in his life, she was driven to elementary school in his 1973 Cadillac Eldorado convertible while her dad quizzed her on multiplication tables. Later on, she remembers him cursing under his breath while resorting to racing car maneuvers in order to chase down the middle school bus for his perpetually late daughter.

Following in her mother’s footsteps, Victoria is a classically trained singer who has won national competitions and performed internationally. She earned her B.A. in music from the University of California at San Diego—an accomplishment her father insisted upon. A certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, Victoria has starred in one feature film playing Rosalind in As You Like It (2016). She has tried her hand at directing and fight choreography and has acted in several modern and Shakespearean plays.

In 2000, Victoria was invited to Madonna di Campiglio and Pinzolo, in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy, to participate in a film festival devoted entirely to the career of Victor Mature. It was a fitting tribute held at the birthplace of Marcello Gelindo Maturi, her paternal grandfather. There Victoria was introduced to an extended family of cousins, gave her first speech in Italian (accompanied by a string quartet playing “My Darling Clementine”) and finally saw her father on the big screen.

Victor Mature, who famously boasted, “I’m no actor and I’ve got 64 pictures to prove it!” would doubtlessly be delighted that public appreciation for his work in films is steadily increasing and that his daughter is committed to celebrating her father’s legacy as one of the great stars of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
