Mary Ann Anderson graduated from Los Angeles Valley College after majoring in Film and English. She attended the University of West Los Angeles and studied Law. She went on to work as a sub-agent for Cara Lund of the Lund Agency, where upon meeting actress/director Ida Lupino, was told by her she was not mean enough to be an agent. Lupino hired her on the spot to be her personal assistant.
Anderson worked faithfully for Lupino for 12 years and served as the conservator of her estate.
She has written three books based on Lupino’s life and career: Lupino Beyond the Camera -100th Birthday Special Edition, The Making of The Hitch-Hiker Film Illustrated and Mr. Adams and Eve - Ida Lupino and Howard Duff.
“Many residents who lived on Old Oak Lane will recall Ida watering her lawn and the neighbors—not the neighbor’s lawn, the neighbors!”
“This Brentwood home was also known for when peace broke out during Ida’s marriage to Howard Duff.”
Anderson was instrumental in bringing Ida Lupino Through the Lens to A&E Biography. She also worked on the Ida Lupino Paper Dolls book released by Paper Studio Press. After Lupino’s passing, Anderson worked for Olivia de Havilland in Paris, France and Joan Fontaine in Carmel, California.
Anderson is an avid movie poster and movie stills collector. She is often seen at TCM Bonham’s previews.
