John Sayles is a storyteller of renown. Beloved among his 18 films are Eight Men Out (1988), The Secret of Roan Inish (1994) and Lone Star (1996). Twice nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, Sayles has been honored by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Writers Guild of America (WGA), Modern Language Association (MLA), American Studies Association (ASA) and American Historical Association (AHA) for his authentic depiction of history and community. He is considered one of the godfathers of the U.S. Independent Film Movement.
