Is an actress, writer, producer, director and now author. Entertainment Weekly named her memoir, I Blame Dennis Hopper: Stories from A Life Lived In and Out of the Movies “one of the best books of 2016.” Her follow up memoir, This Never Happened: Outrageous Stories from a Life Lived In and Out of the Movies will be out in November 2019. Illeana is currently directing the comedy feature, Love Is Funny, based on her original screenplay.
Illeana has produced a number of films and documentaries including Life Without Dick (2002), Chez Upshaw (2012) and Kingdom Come (2013). For four seasons she wrote, directed, produced and starred in the multi-award-winning web-series Easy to Assemble for IKEA. She recently produced and costarred in The Skinny for Refinery29. As an actress some of her memorable film roles include Cape Fear (1993), To Die For (1995), Grace of My Heart (1996), Picture Perfect (1997), Message in a Bottle (1999), Stir of Echoes (1999), Happy Texas (1999) and Ghost World (2001). She received an Emmy nomination as Angela on HBO’s Six Feet Under.
Illeana is the granddaughter of two-time Academy Award-winning actor Melvyn Douglas and California congresswoman Helen Gahagan Douglas. A classic film lover and historian, Illeana hosts Trailblazing Women on Turner Classic Movies. She is proud to be a guru on Joe Dante’s “Trailers From Hell,” and has participated in many film documentaries including 78/52 (2017), The Greatest Cult Films of All Time (2018), The True Adventures of Raoul Walsh (2014), and Kino Lorber’s Early Women Filmmakers. She hosts the I Blame Dennis Hopper Podcast interviewing celebrities about classic film. In her spare time, Illeana hosts The Living Room Show, a live variety show in a complete stranger’s living room!
