HAL DENNIS, JR.

Hal Dennis Jr. grew up in the film editing business working alongside his father, owner of Hal Dennis Productions, an editorial house and equipment rental and repair business, starting at the age of 10. By the time he reached high school, Hal Jr. had progressed from Apprentice Editor to Assistant, and he travelled to Munich, Germany to work on Mediterranean Holiday, a German Cinerama-type film with host Burl Ives. The highlight of his film editing career came in 1965, when he and brother Craig were Assistant Editors for Cinerama’s Russian Adventure, which was originally filmed in Kinopanorama, the 3-panel Russian version of Cinerama. One of their challenging tasks was matching A and C panels to B panels during the editorial process and keeping track of the trims for A, B and C.

During and after college, Hal Jr. was a news editor for NBC TV and later a supervising editor for KHJ-TV in Los Angeles, after which he changed careers and followed his passion for flying, becoming an airline captain for Continental Airlines, where he worked until his retirement in 2006. Hal and his brother Craig are proud to have been included in Dave Strohmaier’s CINERAMA’S RUSSIAN ADVENTURE (1966) restoration project.
