ANDREW JACKSON YORK

Andrew is the fourth son of Sgt. Alvin C. and Gracie York and is one of two surviving children out of seven. He graduated from York Agricultural Institute in 1950, the high school his father started in 1926 after returning from the War. After graduation, Andrew worked for his father on the farm logging and at his father’s general store. He later ran the store for three years. After the State of Tennessee purchased his father’s home and farm and established it as a state park, he became a Tennessee State Park Ranger at the Sgt. York Historical Site, where he worked for over 42 years. He conducted tours of his father’s home and ensured the home was well maintained. He is currently retired and is on the Board of Directors for the Sergeant York Patriotic Foundation, www.sypf.org.
